In this day and age we can not think about living without our computers, our mobile phones, or the almighty Internet. Teaching is also becoming more modern, and we as teachers need to keep up with the times.
Most kids today spend at least a few hours a day online, either to keep in touch with their friends through social networks or to play video games. So, we as teachers can use this to "update" our teaching methods. The internet offers a possibility for us to make our own websites for free (*there are also some features that you need to pay for if you decide to include them in your website). On our websites, we can post texts related to our school subject and we can add multimedia content such as videos, images, quizzes or presentations, in order to make learning more interesting for the students. In addition, we can even add groups for our students and their parents - to make something like an online classroom. We can post our homework assignments and students can do them online. Also, the students who were absent from our class for any reason, or those who have been sick for a long time period, can find the working materials online and in this way keep up with the rest of the students. We can also grade our students, and even give them badges to praise and compliment their work. We as teachers benefit from our websites as well. They help us organize our files and our materials better, so everything is easier to find and more accessible online than in our drawers and on our shelves. Furthermore, we can share our students' work and post examples of successful practice so other teachers can see them and use the materials that we provided in their classes as well. The Internet offers a lot of teaching ideas, exercises, presentations, DIY videos, blogs, and a lot of fun activities that can be used in our classes or online. We can either use these ideas and activities as they are, or we can adapt them to suit our needs and the individual abilities, interests or the level of knowledge of our students. We leave learning through repeating and memorizing in the past. Now, our students learn easily through fun, up-to-date, practical exercises and the multimedia content found on our websites can boost their interest in learning. Finally, the Internet makes it easier to communicate with our students, parents and colleagues. Most of the websites have a contact page where you can ask the author anything related to his/her website or classes. So, fell free to contact me if you have any questions, suggestions or comments...
